From the reviews
I am so happy I discovered Homegrown Power Yoga. It is a place where you feel welcome and connected from the moment you step in. The instructors are amazing, it does not matter whether you are new to yoga or have been doing this for years, they are really good at giving us ways to amplify or modify as needed.
Serendipity guided me to HPY. I met Becca while taking an art class, and she invited me to the studio. I was very hesitant at first, but I took down my self-imposed barriers and decided to accept Becca's invitation.
I’m so thankful I found HPY. It’s more than a studio, it’s a community that welcomes you from the second you walk in, just the way you are. I’ve been in the DMV area since 2018 and have tried many studios. At Homegrown Power Yoga you truly feel like you’ve made it home when you reach your mat.
I really can’t say enough about the impact Homegrown has had on me. Alison and the team have created an amazing community where I’ve felt empowered to push myself while also accepting and loving my practice exactly as it is. When I first came to Homegrown, I didn’t have much yoga experience.
Teacher training at Homegrown Power Yoga
Homegrown Power Yoga comes up for teacher training — confirmed on their own site. If you're thinking about becoming an instructor, a few things are worth asking up front. First, which certification the program leads to — most hot-yoga trainings are Yoga Alliance registered (RYT-200 or RYT-500), and the style matters: a Bikram or hot-power lineage trains differently than a hot-vinyasa or sculpt one. Second, the schedule and prerequisites — cohorts often run in intensive weekend blocks or over several months, and many studios want you practicing regularly there first. Third, cost and payment plans, and whether tuition includes an unlimited membership for the training period. Teacher training is a real commitment of time and money, so it's worth a call or an info session before you enroll.
Your first hot yoga class at Homegrown Power Yoga
Nervous about your first hot class? Almost everyone is, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: the room is heated, so it feels intense for the first few minutes — rest in child's pose any time you need to, no one will bat an eye. Hydrate: drink water through the day before class, not just as you arrive, and bring a bottle. What to bring: a mat and towel, water, and a change of clothes; wear something light you don't mind sweating through, and skip a heavy meal in the couple of hours beforehand. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and set up. It gets easier fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
