From the reviews

Good studio. Those who leave bad reviews based on things like parking, thick accents, and strict teaching style are likely people who had certain expectations coming in plus are not experienced in bikram.

2019 Update: I have continued practicing Bikram here, and recently began taking a variety of pilates classes (classic, POP, and inferno). I've enjoyed the variety. And now that I've experienced a wider variety of instructors, I can say that I am enjoying the studio even more.

When I first started this studio, I had never touched yoga before. Not only is the entire team extraordinary in their craft, but they are willing to work with beginners as well as experts to exceed their levels of fitness each session resulting in a truey unique experience.

★★★★★ — Denise, Mar 2019

Wonderful studio. I’ve taken 5 classes here and was happy I went each time. I have very low tolerance for heat and sweat easily, so the hot yoga classes are always very challenging for me! The classes here have really helped me work on calming my mind and breath.

Your first hot yoga class at Hot Yoga Plus San Mateo

Nervous about your first hot class? Almost everyone is, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: the room is heated to around ~95°F, so it feels intense for the first few minutes — rest in child's pose any time you need to, no one will bat an eye. Hydrate: drink water through the day before class, not just as you arrive, and bring a bottle. What to bring: a mat and towel, water, and a change of clothes; wear something light you don't mind sweating through, and skip a heavy meal in the couple of hours beforehand. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and set up. It gets easier fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.

Heat and intense exercise aren't right for everyone — if you're pregnant or have heart, blood-pressure, or other health concerns, check with a doctor before your first hot class.
