The styles they teach
“When I moved from SF to Oakland 2 1/2 years ago, I scoped out Left Coast Power Yoga because the Laurel location is so close to my house, and I feel so fortunate to have found it.”
“Beyond the regular yoga and Pilates classes, the studio actively fosters connection through community events and yoga retreats.”
“I'm pretty new to yoga (have attended a few classes over the years, but never really "got into it"), and I have fallen in love with this studio!”
What's on offer
“The studio itself is lovely: well designed and clean, equipment is always available and well maintained, they have spray to clean your mat and lockers for any valuables.”
“Logistically, there is plenty of free parking on the nearby side streets, which makes it a stress-free experience arriving to class.”
“They also offer a teacher training program that consistently receives excellent feedback, further confirming the quality of instruction and the studio’s standards.”

From the reviews
Brown girl here to say I love this studio! Lots of BIPOC and queer teachers(special shout out to Malka, Alicia, Kaushik, Rose, Shirley, Malika, Kiko, Jose), and owner is a legit baddie BIPOC Indian woman.
I've taken a good handful of classes and have loved most of the instructors at Left Coast. I've been to a few other yoga studios around Oakland and the instructors here are the best in town. Great practices, so knowledgeable and so relational.
I joined Left Coast in January 2025 and have been fully committed since! What I love most is that Left Coast truly welcomes all levels of practice. The instructors are dedicated to creating a space where you can feel your best — offering thoughtful guidance without pressure to follow mandatory moves.
I've been practicing yoga for many years now, and I can confidently say the Left Coast Power Yoga Laurel location is one of the best studios in the area. One of the reasons that sets it apart is Rachel's (owner and instructor) genuine commitment to the community.
Teacher training at Left Coast Power Yoga - Laurel
Left Coast Power Yoga - Laurel comes up for teacher training — confirmed on their own site. If you're thinking about becoming an instructor, a few things are worth asking up front. First, which certification the program leads to — most hot-yoga trainings are Yoga Alliance registered (RYT-200 or RYT-500), and the style matters: a Bikram or hot-power lineage trains differently than a hot-vinyasa or sculpt one. Second, the schedule and prerequisites — cohorts often run in intensive weekend blocks or over several months, and many studios want you practicing regularly there first. Third, cost and payment plans, and whether tuition includes an unlimited membership for the training period. Teacher training is a real commitment of time and money, so it's worth a call or an info session before you enroll.
Your first hot yoga class at Left Coast Power Yoga - Laurel
Nervous about your first hot class? Almost everyone is, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: the room is heated to around ~100°F, so it feels intense for the first few minutes — rest in child's pose any time you need to, no one will bat an eye. Hydrate: drink water through the day before class, not just as you arrive, and bring a bottle. What to bring: a mat and towel, water, and a change of clothes — there are showers on site; wear something light you don't mind sweating through, and skip a heavy meal in the couple of hours beforehand. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and set up. It gets easier fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
