In A Nutshell: -Up Dog was a nice yoga studio I got to practice at while passing through D.C. -The staff were extremely kind. -As a first timer at their studio you can rent a mat for free, perfect for travelers w/out a mat.
I recently had the pleasure of trying out a hot yoga class at this amazing studio and I cannot say enough positive things about it! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with smiles and positive energy. The studio itself was clean, bright, and inviting, with plenty of space to move around and get into the poses.
The staff and students at Up Dog Yoga are extremely welcoming and friendly. I am a beginner and they made me feel comfortable and welcomed. I already feel like I'm part of the community even with my limited experience. The space is lovely and homey. I will definitely be back as often as possible!
Up Dog Yoga Community is truly a community in every way. This studio, it's owner, and it's teachers provide a comforting environment for people new or seasoned in yoga practice. The space is always clean, welcoming and full of people wanting to connect through yoga and beyond.
Teacher training at Up Dog Yoga Community
Up Dog Yoga Community comes up for teacher training — confirmed on their own site. If you're thinking about becoming an instructor, a few things are worth asking up front. First, which certification the program leads to — most hot-yoga trainings are Yoga Alliance registered (RYT-200 or RYT-500), and the style matters: a Bikram or hot-power lineage trains differently than a hot-vinyasa or sculpt one. Second, the schedule and prerequisites — cohorts often run in intensive weekend blocks or over several months, and many studios want you practicing regularly there first. Third, cost and payment plans, and whether tuition includes an unlimited membership for the training period. Teacher training is a real commitment of time and money, so it's worth a call or an info session before you enroll.
Your first hot yoga class at Up Dog Yoga Community
Nervous about your first hot class? Almost everyone is, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: the room is heated, so it feels intense for the first few minutes — rest in child's pose any time you need to, no one will bat an eye. Hydrate: drink water through the day before class, not just as you arrive, and bring a bottle. What to bring: a mat and towel (or rent them here), water, and a change of clothes; wear something light you don't mind sweating through, and skip a heavy meal in the couple of hours beforehand. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and set up. It gets easier fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
