From the reviews
I thought I was an athlete until the teachers at PPY broke me in half and taught me what toughness really means. And they’re just so damn friendly while they’re doing it! I always thought yoga was so boring! I was going to come into this class for a few yawns and a bit of heat in the winter. Woof. No.
Run don't walk to Portland Power Yoga. I took a noon, power yoga class with Darcy who guided us through a series of postures with ease, great clarity and a clear intention for us to connect with our breathing over everything else. Her expert cueing and pacing let me focus on my practice.
I recently traveled to Portland on vacation and attended two classes, the 45 min express and the 60 minute Vinyasa. I really enjoyed the structure of the classes, and the teaching was excellent! The cueing was clear and consistent, encouraging the student to push further with modifications offered.
I was fortunate to find this studio during my visit to Portland last month. Special thank you to Darcy and Julie who were so welcoming. The studio is a great size and clean and I was happy to see that they also had showers there as well. The class was fabulous (thank you Julie!
Your first hot yoga class at Portland Power Yoga
Nervous about your first hot class? Almost everyone is, and a good studio expects beginners to walk in the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: the room is heated to around ~95°F, so it feels intense for the first few minutes — rest in child's pose any time you need to, no one will bat an eye. Hydrate: drink water through the day before class, not just as you arrive, and bring a bottle. What to bring: a mat and towel (or rent them here), water, and a change of clothes; wear something light you don't mind sweating through, and skip a heavy meal in the couple of hours beforehand. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign in and set up. It gets easier fast — most people say their third class feels completely different from their first.
